The formulation

Do not dwell on it; do not fear it; do not fight it; do not avoid it; take constructive action.

This is an English rendering of a formulation comprising 14 Chinese characters. The speaker presents it after the 24-character principles, then discusses meditation themes and related practice.

Avoiding a reading out of context

The words refer to thoughts, emotions and ways of responding discussed in the lecture. “Do not dwell on it” cannot mean ignoring every real problem. “Do not avoid it” cannot mean remaining in an unsafe situation.

Constructive action is part of the whole formulation and should be read together with the preceding phrases.

Meditation resources

The site also provides a meditation resource index. The content of an exercise and an assessment of its effects are different matters. Research arrangements mentioned in the lecture require the corresponding study materials before their evidence can be evaluated.
